Cervix Isn't Closed After Birth

by Julie

Question: My daughter had her baby 7 months ago and has just been told her cervix has not closed. What implications does this have for her?

Answer: Great question, Julie. I'm afraid on this one I'm not sure how much help I can be without more information.

After having children, the cervix never actually closes back up completely. Usually, it takes about 6 weeks or so for the cervix to get mostly closed.

I've never personally heard of a case where someone's cervix stays abnormally open after birth. I'd recommend her speaking with her doctor about whether or not her situation is anything beyond normal and what this might mean.

One question I recommend asking- does this increase her risk for incompetent cervix in future pregnancies?

Wish I could be more help!

Blessings,

Stephanie
